He showed interest in watercolor at the earlier ages and he studied art from the Kuala Lumpur college of art. His artworks are amazingly related to the normal world and society.His works outline the relationship between people and nature. His is specially noted for his cityscape paintings and village watercolor paintings. He is fond of traveling and this interest gave him experiences to paint new subjects. Yong is one of the primary founding members of the Watercolor organization of Malaysia.
